How to stay on track after a break-up or a loss
Hi peeps! Before you eat that chocolate cake, drink that margarita, or devour that bag of chips— here are your “how to’s” for staying on track during a hard time.
Write down 3 goals and why you have them.
Writing down goals and accomplishing those goals give you the best feeling. Maybe a goal would be that you eat healthy to feel better and lower your blood sugar. Be honest about your goals and be specific. Allow yourself to see what you can do. It can be as simple as writing down 3 simple goals for the day. I started writing my goals on sticky notes and putting them on my mirror. My goals are visible to me everyday and I start my day with a purpose. It’s like I am on a mission.
Make a plan.
Making a plan prevents any major slip ups. A minor detour is just a minor detour. It’s like you made a wrong turn. No big deal. If you are going through a tough time, give yourself some room to indulge without completely going off track. Reward yourself with a cup of coffee and one piece of chocolate. It’s going to take commitment and dedication but stick to your plan. Strive to be persistent not perfect.
Make a list of things you want to do before giving in.
Before you give in, make a list of things you could do instead. Plan a trip, call a friend, make a playlist, take a walk. Think about your list and invest in your commitment to make healthy choices.
Reward yourself with something that doesn’t involve empty calories.
Paint your nails, listen to a podcast, journal, watch a movie, whatever you can do to get you through it in a positive way.
Stay busy.
Stay busy and let people be there for you. If there is anything that I have learned through this emotional time, it is let your friends keep you busy and lean on them. Ask yourself what you need each day. I like to stay busy but you may need to be still and quiet. Allow your friends to be there for you.
xo,
