How To Drink Less Alcohol In 2023

Happy New Year!

It’s only been a few days and I have heard so many people talking about drinking less alcohol in 2023. Here are a few tips to help you drink less and feel your best. My mom and I started this a few months ago and we have seen the biggest difference in the way we look and feel.

1.    Less is more, peeps.

You may not know but my family lived in Switzerland for over a year and the lifestyle was so different. The Swiss do a great job of eating and drinking in moderation. An easy way to limit your alcohol is to wait until the end of your meal to enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine. Try to drink only one glass and SAVOR the taste.

2.     Don’t give into the peer pressure.

Peer pressure doesn’t just apply to kids. Drinking alcoholic beverages has become the center of socializing with friends. If your friends are pressuring you to drink by saying things like “just have one drink” or “you aren’t any fun when you don’t drink.” Talk to them and give your friends the chance to understand your point of view. Give them the chance to support you. This may be hard to hear but if your friends are not supportive, it may be time to find friends that will fit your healthier lifestyle.

3.    Try social events not centered around drinking.

Expand your horizons and meet friends for coffee instead of cocktails. Join a running club. My favorite thing to do is invite my friends for a “walk and talk.” Walking is a great way to get your movement in for the day and more fun with friends!

4.     Don’t get caught up in the “all or nothing” mindset.

Everyone has a bad day. I have learned to allow myself to have a bad day, BUT I don’t allow myself to have multiple bad days in a row. If you drink too much one day, spend some time and refocus. Be kind to yourself and give yourself grace. We are all human and life is definitely too short to beat yourself up.

5.     Know your limit.

This post is intended for my peeps who sometimes overindulge. This post is in no way intended for people who may be addicted to alcohol or other substances. If you feel you are an alcoholic please see your doctor and ask for local resources.
